2011 Deltran Battery Tender Mechanics of the Year Honored at ALMS Banquet
DELAND, FL, (Oct. 12, 2011) – Deltran Battery Tender honored four American Le Mans Series (ALMS) presented by Tequila Patron mechanics for their hard work and professionalism throughout the 2011 season at last weekend’s season ending banquet. In addition to the on-stage recognition, the honorees received $5,000, with an additional $5,000 donated to the Austin Hatcher Children’s Cancer Foundation, the official charity of the ALMS.
Each participating team ran the Battery Tender logo on their cars and elected a fellow mechanic from a competing team in the same class. Once those votes were tallied, the entire contingent of International Motor Sport Association (IMSA) officials voted on that list. The awards were presented by Evin Prelec, Director of Marketing for Battery Tender.
“Everyone recognizes the guys in the brightly painted helmets that drive the high-tech cars in the American Le Mans Series,” Prelec said. “Battery Tender felt that recognizing the men who turn the wrenches and make sure that the drivers have the car under them to put on the fantastic show that we love to watch was a perfect fit for our brand. The hidden heroes that don’t get to walk across the podium or spray the champagne, but work late into the night assuring that our favorite cars are mechanically sound for race day deserve their own recognition.”
The 2011 Battery Tender Mechanic of the Year recipients are Mike Seymour, Muscle Milk Aston Martin Racing winning the award in the LMP1 class, Steve Ragan from Genoa Racing took the award in LMPC, and Gary Biehl from TRG in the GTC category. Dan Binks, crew chief for the No. 3 Compuware Corvette C6.R, took the honor in GT and then donated the award to the Austin Hatcher Foundation on behalf of his teammates.
“In addition to the Mechanic of the Year Award, Battery Tender was the primary sponsor of the No. 23 Battery Tender/Alex Job Racing Porsche in the GTC class,” Prelec added. “Combine the excellent on track performance of Alex Job Racing and honoring the Mechanic of the Year, Battery Tender Is proud to be a part of the American Le Mans Series.”

Battery Tender
In 1989, Deltran introduced the Battery Tender Plus into the marketplace. The main reason was that many more AGM style lead-acid batteries were being used in a variety of power sports engine start applications. Each and every Deltran Battery Tender Battery Charger® regardless of its size is programmed with a microprocessor that will correctly charge a battery then automatically switch to a maintenance/float mode.
